As the earth faces an environmental crisis, citizens demand a "Just Transition" to replace fossil fuels with clean energy sources like solar, wind, and geothermal. Workers whose employment stands to be affected by this transition - including rail workers -must demand and be granted re-training, job opportunities in new industries, equal pay and benefits, and union representation. Railroad Workers United (RWU) has partnered with environmental and community organizations, aligning with the Labor Network for Sustainability and Trade Unions for Energy Democracy. In 2016, RWU adopted a Resolution in Support of an Economic "Just Transition" to ensure a healthy, sustainable planet.
