Proposed Convention Resolution on Diversity

Here is the proposed RWU Resolution on Diversity and Inclusivity. Any suggestions or ideas on changes?
RWU Resolution on Diversity and Inclusivity Whereas, Railroad Workers United’s goal is building solidarity and unity among all rail workers of North America; and Whereas, the Carriers have historically and intentionally worked to divide us by craft, skill level, seniority, race, national origin, gender, union affiliation, and otherwise; and Whereas, as long as rail workers think in partisan terms based on any divisive distinctions, we are bound to remain weak and ineffectual in our battle with the Rail Carriers; Therefore Be it Resolved, that Railroad Workers United (RWU) at its Founding Convention in Dearborn, Michigan, April 11, 2008 commit to building an international organization of rail labor based upon a culture of solidarity, inclusivity, and respect for diversity, without regard to race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, language, skill level, craft, union affiliation, carrier employed by, disability, age, seniority, or otherwise; and Be it Further Resolved that RWU make a special and concerted effort to include those who have traditionally been excluded and/or marginalized by some rail labor organizations -- including new hires and those of recent seniority, retirees, family members, women and minorities, “low skilled”, etc.; and Be it Finally Resolved that this Resolution be prominently displayed on the RWU website.
Background: Historically, management has divided the workforce by any and all false divisions that they can exploit to their own benefit. Workers have power when we have solidarity, when we stick together. If we really are “all in this together”, then we have to act like it. RWU needs to make it clear that these false divisions have only benefited the employer while harming all of us. And we need to make it clear to all rail workers and our families that we are all welcome to take part in this movement for rail labor unity.
